Business Students Career Life

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia is offering budding business, finance and accounting undergraduates an exciting opportunity to launch their careers, with the 2012 Student Challenge.

The annual competition aims to hone students’ ability to apply their business knowledge, creative thinking and powers of analysis to a real world business challenge.

On offer is a unique opportunity to win a coveted place in a global financial capital, where the winner will receive invaluable experience shadowing a senior executive. There could be no better launch pad for your career.

For this year’s challenge, the Institute has partnered with St James Ethics Centre to encourage students to consider the role of ethics within a professional setting. Lee White, CEO at the Institute, says this is a sound pairing.

‘The Student Challenge will be a great opportunity for students to develop their experience in a business environment, with a strong focus on professional ethics’, says White.

Sarah Richardson, Head of Marketing and Communications at St James Ethics Centre, says ‘being ethical is an important consideration in responsible business practices’.

The impressive Challenge prize pool also includes the chance to network with high-profile industry leaders and prospective employers, business coaching, multimedia equipment, and even a personal styling consultation, complete with corporate outfit.

Yan Jun Tan, 2011 Student Challenge co-winner, was the privileged recipient of a flight to San Francisco, where she shadowed Robyn Denholm, CFO and Vice President of Juniper Networks.

‘Taking part in the Student Challenge was a great opportunity to test myself and apply what I’ve learned at university to solve a real business problem currently faced by Australian companies’, says Tan.

Danny Vadasz, CFO of the Australian Conservation Foundation and 2011 Student Challenge judge, says it is the program’s contemporary focus that gives participants a competitive edge.

‘The Chartered Accountants Student Challenge is helping to make students future fit’.
